The response from the Blancpain Customer Service:

Dear Larry:

Blancpain's Customer Service responds to your inquiry as follows:

Magnetic fields originate from a variety of sources such as computer hard drives, medical equipment, speaker systems, televisions, refrigerator doors, cellular telephones and even magnetic caches on handbags.

Such exposure may lead to excessive rate gain which will cause the watch to run very fast or stop entirely. It is important to know that no permanent damage will result from such exposure.

The gold case Villeret watches will not attrack magnetic fied. However it will not protect it either.

The new 50 Fathoms without (!) display back are protected by a faraday cage from such magnetic fields which provide a tolerance to homogeneous and constant magnetic fields up to an intensity of 4800 A/m.

I hope this answers your question.

Best,
Magnus
