The authorised service centers are competent...

to perform all services for watches up to the chronograph. The staff is trained by Blancpain headquarters. So, I think its safe to assume that in general the service quality should be identical (for these watches).

More complicated Blancpains will go to Switzerland for service. You can request, however, that any Blancpain watch will be shipped to Switzerland for service. I personally would hesitate to do so as it increases return time. Also, the shipping itself could harm the watch.

Now I would like to come to your specific case, which I would call a 'borderline case'. You mention that you bought the watch (in Germany) in 2000, and had a service done (in US) in 2005, and now the watch first started to loose time again and finally stopped.

Well, five and four years, respectively, are within the recommended service periods. This should not mean that a watch will automatically stop within this time, but it might. However, this is, IMHO, an indication that the service quality you have received in the US is likely not the cause of your problems.

Rare and infrequent use, for example, could have a detrimental effect to a watch's well-being. E.g., if it is used rarely, the oils and lubricants dry and debris might block the movement once it is worn again. The slimmer the movement, the finer are the parts, the more susceptible it is for the above effect. In such a case, the movement is not defect in a strict sense, but would need to be cleaned and lubricated (think about regular oil changes on your car).

What exact Blancpain watch do you own? How often do you use it?

I hope this helps a bit to answer your question. If not, please let us know.

Best,
Magnus

P.S.: a warm welcome here!
